“I’ve been working here almost 13 years. The owner started the company in 2005, and I came on in 2009. We’ve really grown a lot since then.”
RC Plastics provides recycling and waste management solutions, specializing in sorting, processing, and repurposing plastic materials. With steady growth and increasing volume, the company needed a better way to track and manage everything coming into its warehouse.
“Because we’re waste management and recycling, a lot of the materials that we got in were not documented. It would just come in and we would unload it and not know exactly what was even on the truck until we started sorting and processing it. The biggest problem was it was a headache. I knew that there had to be something better because with technology today there’s no reason to be handwriting stuff on a list.”
Without a reliable system, materials often sat for weeks or even months before being identified or recorded. RC Plastics evaluated other software options like SAP, Fishbowl, and Wasp, but found they lacked the flexibility and simplicity the business needed.
“They offered some different software solutions, but they were all boxed in. There were several elements that we needed that nobody offered. So when I found out what Dan could offer with Digit, that was just a no-brainer.”
Digit replaced handwritten lists and manual tracking with a modern, cloud-based warehouse management system that’s simple, visual, and automated.
“Right away when users log into the software, they’re going to notice a few things. One, there are only five tabs to navigate through. We wanted to simplify, and then simplify again. The other thing they’ll notice is automation. When a user enters a specific material, fields automatically populate, weights are already calculated, and things appear or disappear based on the information they’ve already put in. The day we rolled it out, I spent about five to ten minutes with each user, showed them the overview of the WMS system, and they immediately started using it with very little hiccups.”
Digit gave RC Plastics complete control and visibility over its inventory and incoming materials, turning slow manual work into a seamless, data-driven process.
Key outcomes:
“Digit’s been amazing. I love having all the data at my fingertips. I can pull it up on my phone, get it on my laptop, or access it remotely. At any given time I know how much material and product I’ve got in stock, and before I couldn’t do that. t’s just a simple design, but there’s so much power behind all of the data that we’re capturing and the resources that we have with it.”
With Digit as its operational backbone, RC Plastics now runs on real-time data rather than delayed paperwork. The team plans to expand the system’s use to additional facilities and workflows.
“That’s one of the main things I loved about it. It’s got a personality. It’s designed to be functional and beautiful at the same time.”
Digit gives RC Plastics the clarity and confidence to keep growing while staying focused on its mission to reduce waste and reclaim materials efficiently.
